|Income Tax Bar Association,Raipur - a glimpse of the past
The Income Tax Bar Association, Raipur was formed on 11th December 1971. The President elected was Adv. S.C. Daharwal, with Vice President Late CA M.N. Deshpande, Secretary CA G.C. Jain, Joint Secretary Adv. B.H. Shah and Treasurer Adv. R.K. Pendse.
The first Members' Book was published in 1981. In 1981, there were 62 Members comprising of 39 Advocates, 18 Chartered Accountants and 5 Income Tax Practitioners. In 1981, the Office of CIT was at Bhopal & CIT(A) was at Jabalpur. There were two ranges headed by Inspecting Assistant Commissioners. In each range there were 4-5 officers. Since then there is manifold growth in the number of members due to increase in number of tax-payers, increasing tax compliances burden requiring services of experts.
The Members of this Bar have seen more than 4 decades. During this period it got appreciation from authorities for their capabilities, in-depth knowledge of the tax laws, devotion to work, maintaining cordial relation with the officers of the Income Tax Department simultaneously safeguarding the interest of their clients.
The office bearers, from time to time, were conscious that the changes in law are taking fast & frequently therefore with a view to keeping the members abreast of changes, study circle meetings, seminars etc. were regularly organized.
The Members of the Bar have kept and maintained the glory of the profession in other places also. Adv. Swaroopchand Jain was Member of Legislative Assembly (Madhya Pradesh) (1980-1990). He was also Mayor of Raipur city during 1980-81 and 1982-83. Adv. Ramesh Warlyani was also elected as MLA (Madhya Pradesh) (1977 to 1980). CA G.D. Agrawal was elected as Member of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal in 1995, and presently he is Vice President, Ahmedabad Zone with additional charges of Lucknow & Bangalore Zones. CA G.S.Agrawal was elected as member of CIRC of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in 1997 and became Chairman of CIRC of ICAI in 1999. CA Ankush Golechha was elected as member of CIRC of ICAI in 2009 and became Secretary of CIRC of ICAI in 2012.
Many other Members have also received recognition from State & Central Governments & other authorities such as adoption to Tax Advisory Committee of CBDT, Membership into Board of Directors of Nationalized Banks, Membership into various Committees / Boards of State & Central Governments, nomination in various Committees of ICAI, and so on.
The Bar through the help of its members has played its pivotal role for conducting social activities as well. The bar has contributed donations whenever country faced any natural calamities. In the past, the Bar has also distributed artificial Jaipur foot to the physically challenged people.
The Members of this Bar are maintaining the glory, inherited from past, maintaining discipline, doing hard work, keeping themselves aware of latest developments in the field of direct taxes and developing fraternity & brotherhood amongst themselves.
